Cobaea scandens Blue

Cup and Saucer Vine

A vigorous climber from Mexico with large, pale violet or purple flowers. It is a perennial but would be killed by frosts outside. It can grow to over 15ft tall if allowed, it’s incredibly vigorous, you’ll blink and it will be climbing over any nearby plant or string! I have it growing in the polytunnel, first year, so I can’t speak yet as to whether it will survive in there. I have taking cuttings from it as a precaution/back up!

Germination Instructions : Sow indoors early in the year/late in the previous year if you have somewhere warm to overwinter it. It is recommended to sow it January as it needs several months to flower. Prior to sowing soak the seed for 2 hours in water. Drain then surface sow seeds on their edge onto moist, well-drained seed compost, cover lightly with soil. Ideal temp. 18-24°C and germination takes 21-30 days. Pot on once it gets bigger. Harden off and plant out after danger of frost has passed or plant into a polytunnel/greenhouse.

Growing Instruction Easy to grow.

Cultivation Instructions :Will require a frame on which to climb, it will spread out very quickly onto anything nearby! Requires full sun to flower.
