Flower Farmer Workshop -Deposit- Sat 16th August 2025
Time: 10am - 4:30pm
Location: Bell Meadow, Tullow, Co. Carlow.
Cost : Euro200 (50 deposit )
A full day at the flower farm where you will learn about flower farming, from planning, to seed sowing, to cutting and harvesting, to arranging. There will be theory and practical elements to the day. We have annual beds, perennial beds, a raised bed garden as well as trees and shrubs. Our three polytunnels and greenhouse will all be walked through to demonstrate and also to cut flowers from.
Perfect for anyone thinking of starting their own flower farm, those who want an abundance of flowers from their own cut garden as well as people wanting an enjoyable day out with other flower obsessed people!
The course content will include:
1) Setting up your patch. Your why and how that will influence what you grow. Practicalities of setting up a flower farm.
2) Flower growing calendar and crops by season. Flower planning and succession sowing.
3) Starting flowers from seed, bulbs and perennials that do well in an Irish climate. We will look at what needs to be grown in polytunnels in Ireland and also what will thrive outside.
4) Soil fertility, green manures and composting. Organic principles and how I apply them. The best tools, landscape fabric and other practical aspects.
5) A discussion of sales channels, websites and social media.
6) Harvesting and conditioning your flowers.
7) You will receive a box of seeds to get you growing.
8) A list of sources and books to inspire you.
We will stop for a quick light lunch and tea breaks through the day.
